MARCH ON is dedicated to increasing voter turnout and driving Democrats to the polls. Our data-driven solutions led the way for progressive victories in 2020 and 2022. Now, we're gearing up to stop Trump’s comeback in 2024.

Friend, happy Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month!

Each week of May, we’re highlighting an inspiring AAPI woman in politics who has made an impact on the fight for lasting progressive change.

Today, we’re celebrating Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois!

Tammy Duckworth won her election to the Senate in 2016, after representing Illinois for two terms in the House of Representatives.

Upon her victory, Duckworth became the first Asian American woman to represent Illinois in the Senate. Senator Duckworth is also the first disabled woman elected to the Senate, having served as a U.S. Army helicopter pilot during the Iraq War and losing both of her legs in combat.

In the Senate, Duckworth co-founded the Senate’s first-ever Environmental Justice Caucus and – after becoming the first Senator to give birth while in office – led the way for a historic rules change that allows Senators to bring their infant children onto the Senate floor.

Senator Duckworth has also been a strong advocate for equal pay for women, protecting public lands, and affordable childcare. She has brought critical legislation to the Senate floor to expand voting rights and strengthen election security.

Prior to her work in Congress, Duckworth served as the Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs under President Obama, where she worked to improve healthcare services for veterans and their families.

Friend, remember: Progressive leaders like Tammy Duckworth were elected thanks to the tireless activism and organizing by grassroots supporters like you!
