John, in my time as a Congresswoman – and my decades of being a mother – I've noticed a lot of similarities between these jobs. 

In motherhood and in Congress, my “constituents” are always on my mind. My job is never "done" – there's always something else around the corner. 

In motherhood and in Congress, I feel the joys of success acutely – and also profoundly feel the deep pain when we fall short of our goals.

And in motherhood and in Congress, I honor and acknowledge those who came before me – those who paved the way. 

This Mother's Day, I hope you can take time to let yourself be celebrated – or to celebrate the mothers or mother figures in our lives. And if this is a difficult holiday for you, know that my thoughts are always with you, for there are many different types of "families" on this planet.
