John – Nearly ten years ago, Republican lawmakers successfully convinced the Supreme Court to gut key provisions of the Voting Rights Act. Now, they’re asking the Court to finish the job.

FiveThirtyEight: The Supreme Court is on the verge of killing the Voting Rights Act

John, will you help us elect leaders who will defend voting rights?

In Shelby County, the SCOTUS functionally eliminated the requirement for states with histories of racial discrimination to receive preclearance before passing new election laws. The results have been far-reaching and devastating, with GOP lawmakers across the country scrambling to restrict voting access by closing polling places, purging voter rolls, imposing new identification requirements, and more.

Now, experts warn that the Court’s opinion in Allen v. Milligan could pave the way for a similar cascade of racial gerrymandering.

“[A] ruling that sides with Alabama would be a radical departure from previous interpretations of the law and would likely free states to draw congressional or state legislative maps where minority voters have less political power relative to their numbers.”

In other words, Republican-led states could be free to gerrymander with impunity – even if it dilutes the voting power of communities of color.

At the NDR PAC, we’re not sitting around waiting for SCOTUS to rule. Instead, we’re working to safeguard against the worst-case scenario by going state-by-state to elect leaders who will fight for fair maps, protect the right to vote, and more.

Will you pitch in any amount you can today to help us keep up this critically important work?

President Obama said “The fight to safeguard our democracy is happening every day. That’s how it’s always been, and that’s how it will continue.” And the way we see it, we’ve got two choices: 1.) We can give up and let Republicans continue chipping away at democracy piece by piece, or 2.) We can fight back with everything we’ve got to make sure it survives for future generations.

Please, John, join us in choosing option 2 and make a donation to the NDR PAC to support our fight to elect leaders who will defend our democracy.
