20-year rule

In 2022, Canada spent approximately 1.3 percent of its GDP on defense, well short of the NATO goal of 2 percent, which it has not met in over 35 years. Leaked U.S. intelligence documents recently revealed that Prime Minister Trudeau has told allies in private that Canada will never reach the 2 percent spending target.

The Chinese Communist Party’s signature foreign policy program, the Belt and Road Initiative, invests in large infrastructure projects in 21 of the 34 countries that make up Latin America and the Caribbean, including sensitive infrastructure such as nuclear power stations.
