Wow, the youth of Iowa have spoken! For the 2nd time in a row we outpolled all the other Democratic Senate candidates in the Iowa Youth Straw Poll. Our campaign won by a lot, too. We polled at 32.2%, while the other closest campaigns sat at 19%.

We won the poll because young people understand that ours is the campaign fighting for things that will make or break their futures - universal single-payer healthcare, a Green New Deal, and debt-free trade school or college. To achieve all of this will require electing courageous, forward-thinking leaders who have the political courage to put people over profits.

It’s easy to get discouraged when we witness a display of political cowardice, like yesterday on the floor of the U.S. Senate by my opponent, Sen. Joni Ernst. But I refuse to give up on the future of our nation, on my son’s future and your kids’ futures, and I’ll keep fighting for all of us.

The youth of our nation are watching. What will they see? Will they see courage, or will they see leaders who cower to bullies in our own government? I know what kind of leader I will be. One who stands up to bullies and for what’s right, every time.
