Hey John,
As my son enters adulthood, I constantly remind him of all the times when he used his actions to create the change he wanted to see. Whether it’s leading by example through my work with When We All Vote or helping him cast his first absentee ballot in a presidential election, my goal is to prepare and provide a foundation that gives him the confidence to take action about the things that are important to him. Alice Walker once said, “[My mother] had handed down respect for the possibilities — and the will to grasp them.” Whether you show up as a mom, a grandmother, an aunt, an older sister, or a mother figure — it is our responsibility to show our children they have the possibility to create the change they want to see in this world.
