Dear John,
This week, we prayed for the
safety of all Israelis as missiles launched from Gaza rain down on
civilians across the country.
Read on to learn more.
The CIJA Team
Once again, in times of conflict, we see that Israel targets
terror while Palestinian Islamic Jihad commits double war crimes by
hiding behind Palestinian civilian infrastructure and indiscriminately
firing at innocent Israelis.
Last week, more than 1000 missiles were launched into Israel from
Gaza. Israelis in central and southern Israel, including areas around
Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, spent the week running to bomb shelters, and
several houses and civilian structures suffered direct hits. In
Israel, two civilians were killed, and 69 Israelis were wounded.
These attacks follow a barrage in late April of 100 missiles
fired at civilians by Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), a
Canadian-listed terror entity that the Government of Canada describes
as “one of the most violent Palestinian terrorist groups.” Israel
responded by launching “Operation Shield and Arrow,” which targeted
three senior members of the PIJ, including a commander responsible for
missiles fired at Israeli civilians and for planning an immediate
future attack on Israelis and one of the most senior members of PIJ
who coordinated weapons and money transfers between Hamas and
PIJ.
An Egyptian-brokered ceasefire on late Saturday seems to be
holding.

On June 26, from a pool of 60 candidates, Torontonians will
choose their next mayor.
From safety and security to housing affordability and food
insecurity, the Jewish community’s priorities are as diverse as our
members. It is important that our community engage with candidates so
they can hear – directly from you – about the issues that matter most
to you.
Leading mayoral candidates have been invited to UJA’s
Walk with Israel on Monday, May 22. We invite you to come meet
those running for mayor and share what is top of mind for you this
election season. Join us at CIJA’s registration table at Earl Bales
Park at 9:30 a.m. – before the walk gets underway – for a chance to
‘Meet Your Next
Mayor.’
What is the number-one
priority you want candidates
to address? If
you could ask candidates one question, what would it be? Let us know what matters most to you in
choosing your next mayor.
What is the single-most important challenge we confront
today?
Jew-hatred. Antisemitism.
Whatever we call it, we must take a stand. We must show that
enough is enough.
It’s time to face it, and it’s time to fight it. Learn more
