Something’s happening in Ohio that’s not getting enough attention right now: Republicans are trying to change the state’s Constitution to prevent voters from protecting abortion. 

For over 100 years, the Ohio Constitution has allowed for voter-proposed amendments to be added to the Constitution if a majority of voters approved. Now, fearing the popularity of reproductive rights and the likelihood an amendment protecting abortion would pass, Republicans are trying to change the rules. 

They want to place additional hoops to jump through in the process, as well as raise the bar for what is needed to pass. 

All over the country, Republicans have decided they’re playing by their own rules. In Tennessee and Montana, they’re expelling lawmakers they disagree with. And now in Ohio, they’re literally rewriting the Constitution to ensure the will of the people can be ignored.
