Team,
Far-right judicial activist Leonard Leo’s secret payments to the spouse of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas have been exposed by the Washington Post:
Let’s get this straight. The guy who’s long led the special interest capture of the Supreme Court arranged for Ginni Thomas to be paid tens of thousands of dollars. The money came from his outfit, the Judicial Education Project — from the same group that funneled tens of millions of dollars in anonymous donations into ads to push the nominations of Justices Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett to the Supreme Court. The payments to Thomas happened the same year Leo’s group filed a brief with the Supreme Court in a voting rights case. Oh, and Leo made sure Ginni’s name was left off the paperwork.
Leo’s defense for all the secrecy? He said he made the payments through hidden channels because he believes people can be “disrespectful, malicious and gossipy.” This is someone who has made it his life’s mission to reshape the Supreme Court in a way that favors far-right billionaires from the shadows, and when the American people catch a glimpse of his work to undermine their interests, he responds with insults.
I’m casting a floodlight on Leo and his billionaire buddies who are trying to capture SCOTUS and bend our democracy to their will. Will you help me expose their slimy work by chipping in just $5?
Leo doesn’t just have business before the Court — his business is the Court. I’m going to keep up the drumbeat of exposing his dark money web, knowing full well that my work to restore the integrity of the judicial branch has made me a lot of wealthy and powerful adversaries.
If you’re with me, donate what you can to my re-election campaign so I can continue my work to stop the massive dark-money Court capture operation that is actively undermining the interests of the American people.
Thank you,
Sheldon
