Wildlands Network Inspires Bi-partisan Action at the Capitol On July 23, Wildlands Network presented a congressional briefing, Saving America's Biodiversity and the Wildlife Corridors Conservation Act in the Capitol, to a packed room of congressional staff, reporters and conservation advocates. The briefing followed the devastating report from the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) that highlighted the profound threats to species across the world, and made clear that protection of wildlife corridors in America is a fundamental part of the solution. In fact, the presentations featured Sir Robert Watson, the former chair of the IPBES Global Assessment on Biodiversity, as well as a superb remote introduction by distinguished conservation biologist E.O. Wilson. Miss the live stream? You can watch the event in its entirety here. Our three Congressional leaders, Senator Tom Udall (D-NM) and Representatives Don Beyer (D-VA) and Vern Buchanan (R-FL) all spoke eloquently about the need for the Wildlife Corridors Conservation Act. Immediately after the briefing, another Senator stepped up to co-sponsor the bill! Now we need you to step up and ask your Representative and Senators to co-sponsor the Act.
Your support is critical to capitalizing on the momentum and energy surrounding this landmark legislation. We are already planning in-district meetings across the country and a lobbying day in D.C. this fall. Special thanks to all the event co-hosts including: EO Wilson Biodiversity Project, Center for Large Landscape Conservation, Endangered Species Coalition, International Fund for Animal Welfare, National Wildlife Federation, National Parks and Conservation Association and Defenders of Wildlife. And our Honorary Hosts: Sen. Tom Udall (D-NM), Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA), Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL).
