URGENT ACTION NEEDED: Tell Kroger to STOP selling food grown with CANCER-LINKED pesticides! Take action now!
You should be able to walk into a grocery store and pick fresh produce off the shelves without concern that the food contains pesticides. But that’s not guaranteed. Right now, Kroger is selling food grown with toxic pesticides!
Neonics -- a common class of pesticides used to grow the food that Kroger and other grocers sell -- have been linked to birth defects of the heart and brain, hormone disruption, and other serious health issues. These are not chemicals we want to be feeding to our families and children. But Friends of the Earth found them in Kroger brand applesauce and spinach.
Despite the mounting evidence that toxic pesticides are harmful to people and the planet, Kroger continues to sell pesticide-contaminated food to its customers. Please, Friend, will you tell Kroger to STOP selling food grown with pesticides linked to CANCER and other health issues? Send a message by 11:59 pm TONIGHT!
A recent study found that 80% of adults and children -- who are especially vulnerable -- had traces of a pesticide called glyphosate in their bodies. We found glyphosate, aka Roundup, on Kroger brand oat cereal and beans. Glyphosate is linked to serious health problems, including cancer.
And I haven’t even touched on the worldwide impact toxic pesticides are having on pollinators, Friend. Neonics can KILL BEES ON CONTACT. We rely on bees and other pollinators for one in three bites of food, including the most nutritious -- so when we lose bees, we also lose some of the foods that keep us healthy! In fact, the decline in bees and other pollinators has already harmed global fruit, vegetable, and nut production. Without access to these vital crops and a healthy diet, people could be at higher risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and even cancer, according to a recent study.
But there’s still hope. We can produce organic food without toxic pesticides sustainably and at-scale, protecting our health and the health of our planet -- it just requires people like you to continue fighting back. With Kroger’s upcoming Annual General Meeting, NOW is a critical time to act! Please take immediate action and together, we can help PROTECT people, pollinators, and the planet from toxic pesticides!
Standing with you,
