Whether or not you farm for a living, farm policy impacts everyone’s daily life.
Bad farm policies have allowed large, industrial-scale agriculture to maintain a stranglehold over our food system for far too long. These corporations rake in enormous profits at the expense of animal welfare, the environment, workers, families, and communities.
Farmers can't earn a fair living raising crops and livestock, and consumers face rising food costs and limited choices.
We know that small- and medium-sized independent farms can meet the demand to feed the population, but that won’t remain the case if mega-corporations are allowed to keep stomping them out of existence.
Fair farm policies would rebuild the infrastructure consumers need to access sustainably grown, regionally produced food. A fair policy would let the people who grow our food earn a living and practice environmental stewardship. They will also be allowed to treat farm animals humanely and hold large-scale factory farms responsible for their pollution.
Food & Water Watch and its affiliated organization, Food & Water Action, are advocacy groups with a common mission to protect our food, water and climate.
