Hi there --
While we wait for the results from the first of many elections that will eventually determine the Democratic nominee for president, here are a few things you should know:
- Right now, Republicans in the Iowa Senate are trying to make it nearly impossible to get an abortion in the state. If Democrats can flip just four seats this fall, we'll take push the Iowa GOP out of the majority.
- Meanwhile in Georgia, a state senator is pushing legislation that would make it more difficult for same-sex couples to adopt. The filing deadline in Georgia is one month from today.
- In New York, the state regulators recently changed the rule that has allowed real estate brokers to collect enormous fees from renters -- even if the prospective tenant isn't a client. This is just one of the many ways the state has made life better for renters lately.
If you're not seeing a theme, let me spell it out: State and local elections are just as urgent as the presidential race. We're fighting to pick up as many seats as we can, but it's a big project, and we need your support.
