Both parties agree that we cannot default on our debt.

This week, President Biden met with House and Senate leadership to come to a compromise, and those conversations are ongoing. 

Republicans want to tie the debt ceiling increase to drastic future spending cuts. Democrats want to protect the programs you and your family rely on. I’m fighting to protect veterans' benefits, Social Security and Medicare, food assistance, and more to ensure no one is left behind.

My goal is to bridge the divide to get to a ‘yes’ on raising the debt ceiling so that we can negotiate future spending without rushing to any rash decisions. We need to pay the bills we owe and avoid an economic catastrophe, and then we can discuss ways to cut down on fraud and waste and ensure fiscal responsibility.

I will keep you updated as we continue working to put an end to this crisis.

Every life lost to substance use is a tragedy – we can and must do more to end this crisis. This week, I worked with my fellow co-chairs of the Bipartisan Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Task Force to highlight ways we can end the addiction crisis and help save lives.

Our current model of treating addiction and substance use disorder is leaving too many people behind. I am proud to advocate for comprehensive addiction care by expanding access to medication, ensuring quality insurance coverage, and investing in a robust mental health care workforce.

Addiction does not care whether you are a Democrat or a Republican — and neither should our approach to addressing the overdose crisis.

I am proud to lead the charge to end this epidemic on the Bipartisan Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Task Force and bring together leaders from across the aisle to help save lives.

Telehealth has become a staple in our health care system.

This week, I was proud to see the DEA heed my calls for action to ensure patients across the country can still use telehealth to access substance use disorder treatment after the COVID-19 public health emergency ends.

Mental health is a critical component of wellness, and we must treat it that way.

Also, this week, I introduced legislation to equip our Community Health Centers with the tools and funding needed to meet patients where they are through increased mental and behavioral health services, extended hours, and new workforce investments. 

These centers play a huge role in our nation’s health care system — when we invest in them, our entire country feels the benefits.

Reforming our immigration system requires bipartisan cooperation.

We need comprehensive, bipartisan immigration reform to create a secure and humane immigration system. 

Republicans and Democrats need to come together to discuss real solutions to this crisis, like increasing technology at our ports of entry, strengthening our workforce, creating a pathway to citizenship for DREAMers, and holding cartels accountable.

I am working to bridge the gap across the aisle and advance real progress for our country’s immigration system.

Small businesses keep our state running.

Small businesses are the backbone of our economy – I am proud to advocate for them in Congress and support them back home.
