We really need your name on this one, PFAW Member! If you've been watching the Democratic presidential candidates in the debates and on the campaign trail, or have seen any headlines about the democracy-strengthening reforms we've been helping to pass in the states, you know that our movement to amend the Constitution to undo Citizens United and get Big Money OUT of politics is stronger than ever before. And that's in no small part due to PFAW members like you! We JUST stood with Democratic allies in the Senate to reintroduce the Democracy For All amendment this week and TODAY the Senate just adjourned for its August recess. Can you help us get to 50,000 signatures this recess so we can send the most powerful grassroots message possible to members Congress? PFAW and movement and Senate allies rally at the Supreme Court to announce reintroduction of the Democracy For All Amendment, which would undo the harm of Citizens United and related cases. PFAW Member, When the Supreme Court’s conservative majority opened the floodgates for Big Money in our elections with its Citizens United ruling, it caused massive harm to our democracy. By restricting lawmakers' ability to limit spending by corporations and secret money special interest groups, the amount of Big Money in recent elections has skyrocketed to previously unfathomable levels. BILLIONS of dollars are poured into each election cycle and it's a safe assumption that the 2020 election cycle will be record setting. But it doesn't have to be this way -- and it shouldn't. Just today, Senate Democrats reintroduced the Democracy For All amendment at a rally with activists outside the Supreme Court. And just recently New Hampshire became the 20th state to signal support for an amendment to address the harm caused by Citizens United and related cases. There is more energy than ever to see that this amendment passes in Congress! The amendment would allow Congress and the states to set commonsense rules for the raising and spending of money in our elections, and to distinguish in doing so between people and corporations. The measure provides the important clarification that nothing in the amendment should be construed to abridge the freedom of the press. The amendment also rejects the current Supreme Court’s misguided interpretation that the only basis for campaign finance regulation is to address corruption in the form of quid pro quo bribery. We must fight back against the flood of secret money – sign the petition!>> With your signature (and continued pressure on members of Congress), we can get secret money OUT of politics and put power back in the hands of the American people. Thank you, - Zach, PFAW
