Dear John
Well, at least two. This week I was
focused on how we can get around London in a way that’s greener and
kinder to our environment - and my journey led me to some interesting
and fun discoveries.
The first ride was with PedalMe and
this was so much fun. They’re a pedal-powered passenger and cargo
service and just one example of an innovation that can decrease our
reliance on private car use.
The second ride was with Zipcar.
You’ve probably seen branded cars like
these out and about and,
again, car-sharing is another important way we can reduce emissions in
London.
But it’s not all about cars. For
instance, did you know that London is officially a National Park
City?
I met up with the Founder of the
organisation who earned the city the status and spoke about their
plans to make London “greener, healthier, and wilder”. This fits well with my own plans for the
city, where I hope to join the dots between green and wellbeing
initiatives to make London a greener and kinder place to
live.
And my green and clean theme didn’t
stop there. I was impressed by Waltham Forest’s pedestrian and cycle-friendly
“Mini-Holland” and spent my
Sunday cleaning up plastic from the River
Thames.
Read on to hear about London’s
first Low Plastic Zone, Sadiq Khan’s failure to make the most of the
Ultra Low Emissions Zone scrappage scheme and my speech on Brexit
Day.
Kind regards

LOVE
LONDON
This is brilliant - if we can do it in
one street, I’m sure we can do it in others too. We need London-wide
coordination to meet our green ambitions.
BETTER
LONDON
This is so disappointing and yet
another example of a good idea being wasted by poor implementation. We
must start seeing green initiatives all the way through.
