Legislative Update

House Nears the End of Session

This week, we began voting on conference committee reports on the various omnibus bills. The bills are coming back quickly, as the Democrats have decided to adjourn next Thursday, May 18, instead of the constitutional adjournment deadline of May 22.

With four fewer days to get our work done, Democrats are running conference committee business largely behind closed doors. Negotiations have turned into back room deals with no public input and no Republicans in the room, and committees are mostly just coming back to pass the final deal and adjourn. It has been very disappointing to see the way things are being run this session. The voice of the public should always be heard on the issues in front of the House.
