For over 30 years, Helen has stood up to the status quo and delivered results. When schools were understaffed and water fountains had lead in them, she stepped up to guarantee safe drinking water, nurses, and counselors in every school. When low-wage workers were being exploited, she passed legislation to guarantee reliable schedules. And when Philly had one of the highest rates of eviction in the country, Helen passed legislation that cut evictions by 70%.

I know what it’s like to be told that my ideas are 'too big' or 'too hard' and that 'it’s better to keep quiet.' And I also know that our power lies in our connections to each other, and that a burgeoning people-powered movement from Philly to New York to Chicago and beyond is going to transform the status quo that has held this country back for too long.
