John,
Today I want to talk about something that’s on the minds of a lot of parents: our kids’ mental health.
I spend a lot of time with parents these days and the number one thing I hear is concern about their kids’ mental health. Depression, anxiety, loneliness are at an all time high. In fact, a recent ACLU survey found that 43% of California students had a panic or anxiety attack in 2021.
It’s incredibly scary.
So I started digging into what we could do to help. First, I found out that one of the best ways to help is early intervention directly in schools. But with more digging, I found out that because of an outdated law, specialists like family counselors, social workers and psychologists are often prevented from working in public schools. It made no sense.
That’s why I just introduced a new bill called the Improving Mental Health in Schools Act. It’s very simple - it rewrites the law to let schools hire the trained specialists our kids need, where they need it.
Look, I know one law isn’t going to change everything for our kids, but I truly believe good policy is a part of the solution.
If you support this legislation and believe our kids’ mental health is important, I hope you will sign this petition to become a citizen co-sponsor of my new bill today.
Thanks for listening, I’ll keep working hard to help our next generation.
