Hi John.
I know Kansans are frustrated by partisanship and political games. That goes for both sides of the aisle, which is why it’s important I push back against my own party. My job is to serve you – not the president or my party’s leaders.
That’s why I’m urging President Biden and his administration to negotiate with House Republicans on a comprehensive and bipartisan immigration reform bill.

As you may know, yesterday the administration lifted a policy known as Title 42. We now face a possible doubling of illegal crossings at our southern border by some estimates, exacerbating a humanitarian crisis.
In response, the House majority held a vote on their own immigration bill yesterday too. Frankly, this partisan bill isn’t a real solution to the challenges we are seeing at our borders. Kansans expect Congress to work together, not along party lines, to fix our broken immigration system.
More than a year ago, I expressed my reservations about lifting Title 42 without having a comprehensive and bipartisan plan in place first. President Biden should join me in working with House Republicans to try and find common ground on what immigration reform in our country can look like.
I am ready to work with both Republicans and Democrats on a bipartisan, comprehensive immigration plan that actually secures our border, treats children and families humanely, and addresses the fentanyl crisis. Instead of avoiding hard decisions and using this issue to score political points, both parties need to work on solutions to address our immigration challenges once and for all.
That must include securing and protecting our borders along with a roadmap to citizenship, especially for people who have served in our military and Dreamers. We need a humane, efficient, and pragmatic approach – not more division and empty promises.
I’ve voted for several bipartisan laws to secure our border, hire more border patrol agents, and crack down on illegal drug smuggling. That includes legislation many of my Democratic colleagues opposed, but I decided to support because it was the right thing to do for Kansas. I’ve also worked with local law enforcement to address the fentanyl crisis and supported bipartisan legislation to save lives.
It is an incredible honor to serve you in the U.S. House of Representatives. Whether we agree on every issue or not is beside the point. Everyone deserves a government that works for them – not just for special interests, big corporations, or the extremes of either party.
