Victory Fund’s Newest Endorsements!
We’re announcing two new endorsements and their elections are coming up quick! Gabriela Saldaña-Lopez [[link removed]] is an incumbent running for the David Douglas School Board in Oregon. Election Day is Tuesday, May 16th. Our second endorsement this week was Shontel Lewis [[link removed]] for Denver City Council, District 8. The runoff election is less than a month away on June 6th – mark your calendars!
Last week, we endorsed incumbent Kate Triggiano [[link removed]] who ran for Red Bank City Council and won! Kate has ensured LGBTQ+ representation on the city council! [[link removed]]

Rue Landau and Amanda McIllmurray: Philly City Council Candidates!

As an activist and civil rights attorney, Rue Landau [[link removed]] has spent her entire career fighting for social justice and equity [[link removed]] . Rue will make history as one of the first out LGBTQ+ people ever elected to the Philadelphia City Council next Tuesday (May 16th).
Like Rue, Amanda McIllmurray [[link removed]] will also be one of the first out LGBTQ+ people elected to the Philadelphia City Council! Amanda brings grassroots organizing to the table. [[link removed]]

“Chicago Is About to Have the Gayest City Council In the Country”

There are EIGHT LGBTQ+ Victory Fund endorsed candidates who recently won seats on the Chicago City Council. [[link removed]] Newly elected members include Jessie Fuentes who is the first out LGBTQ+ Afro-Latina elected to the Chicago City Council, Lamont Robinson who is the first out Black gay man elected to the Chicago City Council, Bennett Lawson and Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth who is the first LGBTQ+ Asian-American person elected to the Chicago City Council!
Manaa-Hoppenworth said; “The LGBTQ community crosses race, class, ethnicities and wards, so it’s exciting to be part of a City Council that reflects that.” [[link removed]]
Reelected LGBTQ+ leaders include Rossana Rodriguez , Timmy Knudsen , Maria Hadden and Carlos Ramirez-Rosa who will all continue to be strong voices for equality on the city council.
Upcoming June Elections in Virginia
In Virginia, we have 15 candidates who are committed to advancing pro-equality legislation and initiatives that support ALL Virginians. Victory Institute’s own Jonathan Dromgoole [[link removed]] will be the first out LGBTQ+ immigrant elected in Virginia! With strong pro-equality values, his agenda pushes for fair housing and clean energy in Arlington [[link removed]] .
Spotlight candidate Adele McClure [[link removed]] has received over 50 endorsements from pro-equality and pro-choice organizations and elected officials [[link removed]] . She will be the first Black person and first Asian person elected to the state legislature from Arlington County!
Every year is an election year. That’s why we’ve endorsed 135 LGBTQ+ leaders so far for 2023 races -- from school board seats to state legislatures. LGBTQ+ voices are essential in all halls of power!
