To Kill a Mockingbird was the featured title at this week’s annual Laura Bush Book Club event, part of the Engage at the Bush Center series presented by NexPoint with support from H-E-B.

The book examines hate and fear in a community in the 1930s. Today, hate and fear still exists. We witnessed this in Allen, Texas this past weekend. To Kill A Mockingbird reminds us that overcoming hate is a responsibility we must all bear.

David J. Kramer, Executive Director of the Bush Institute, said at Monday’s event, “We all have a responsibility to tackle this hate, to overcome our fear, and to be able to live our lives in peace and friendship. We must never become numb to this nor accept it as normal. We are a proud and great Nation – but we can and must strive to be a better, more perfect union.”
