Dayton Childrens

Governor and First Lady DeWine visited Dayton to take part in the groundbreaking ceremony for Dayton Children's Hospital?s new Mental Health Building. Governor DeWine awarded $25 million to support the project last year as part of his Pediatric Behavioral Health Initiative, which is working to ensure that?kids and their families can get services and supports for behavioral health needs in or near their communities.

The construction at Dayton Children's is occurring while the Governor focuses on his 2023 budget priorities, which include?strengthening mental health crisis response infrastructure in Ohio and ensuring appropriate care is available to all Ohioans when and where they need it.

OSHP Aviation

Governor DeWine announced that the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) will enhance its aviation technology to offer improved air support to local law enforcement agencies across the state*.?*Approximately $6 million in funding will be awarded to the OSHP as part of the?Ohio Violent Crime Reduction Grant Program [ [link removed] ] to improve OSHP's live-streaming aviation technology.?

"During dangerous and evolving situations, our OSHP flight crews have a birds-eye view of the scene below, but it's just as important for on-site incident commanders to have this perspective as well," said Governor DeWine. "By extending this live-streaming technology across more parts of the state, OSHP will better support local law enforcement during emergencies by offering them the opportunity to see the same real-time aerial views that our flight teams are seeing from the air."

Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted announced the approval of assistance for eight economic development projects that are expected to create 663 new jobs, more than $35 million in new payroll, and more than $185 million in investments across Ohio.?

Projects include Warabeya North America Inc., Columbus (Franklin County);?SFS Group USA Inc., Sharon Township (Medina County);?GVS Filtration Inc., Findlay (Hancock County); New Horizons Baking Company LLC, Toledo (Lucas County);?P.M. Electro Auto Inc., Toledo (Lucas County); Tekni-Plex Inc., Van Wert (Van Wert County);?Oats Overnight Inc., West Chester Township (Butler County);?Sunstar Engineering Americas Inc., Springboro and Franklin (Warren County).

Ohio, The Heart of it All

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, First Lady Fran DeWine, and Lt. Governor Jon Husted announced that the state will resume use of?the popular ?Ohio, The Heart of it All,? [ [link removed] ] tagline,?which was the state's tourism slogan?between 1984 and 2001.?

The three made various stops throughout the state to celebrate the new brand, including Karamu House Theater in Cleveland, Fifth Third Field in Toledo, and Boonshoft Museum of Discovery in Dayton.?

?As Ohio evolves into a powerhouse for technology and innovation, we're looking at the classic 'Ohio, The Heart of it All' tagline in a new way," said Governor DeWine. ?Our state is thriving, and we want the world to know that Ohio is the heart of technology, the heart of opportunity, the heart of adventure, and the heart of family. This is a brand for all of Ohio, uniting everything we love about our great state under one powerful phrase.???

?Tourism is big business in Ohio, but it?s only part of the puzzle,? said Lt. Gov. Husted. ?We want to be champions for the state of Ohio. Moving forward, we?re going to be more intentional about attracting not only visitors, but also people who want to live, learn, and work here.?

Governor DeWine and leaders from the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Ohio Traffic Safety Office announced encouraging new data that shows the state?s strengthened distracted driving law is making a positive impact on Ohio?s roadways.

Distracted Driving Statistics

?Ohio?s new law went into effect a little over a month ago, and it?s already making a difference,? said Governor DeWine. ?I?m glad to see that Ohio drivers are making safety a priority and putting their phones down while they drive.?

The report from Cambridge Mobile Telematics [ [link removed] ], the world?s largest telematics service provider, shows Ohio drivers are now spending less time handling their phones while driving since the law went into effect on April 4, 2023. The law makes it illegal in most cases for drivers to use or hold a cell phone or electronic device. The violation is now considered a primary offense, meaning any officer can pull over a driver immediately if they witness a violation.

Governor DeWine announced that more than 100 communities across the state have been awarded a total of??$1 million in grants to help pay for equipment needed to maintain their public drinking water infrastructure.?

H2Ohio

The H2Ohio grants will cover distribution system equipment such as mobile leak detectors, line locators, valve exercisers, flow meters, hydrant condition assessors, pressure monitors, and training to use the equipment.

?These grants will help communities in nearly all of Ohio?s 88 counties ensure that their residents have safe water to drink,? said Governor Mike DeWine. ?Clean water is important for quality of life, and one of H2Ohio?s main goals is to help communities maintain their water infrastructure so this basic necessity is readily available.?

Lt. Governor Husted announced the results of the March round of TechCred, in which 391 employers were approved for funding, providing the opportunity for Ohioans to earn 4,656 tech-focused credentials. This most recent round marks the 19th application period of the program with manufacturing topping the list of industries applying for tech-infused credentials.

?There is a constant demand on our workforce to adapt to new technologies,? said Lt. Governor Husted. ?Having a program like TechCred to help upskill or reskill Ohioans is vital to the success of our people and businesses.?

Governor Husted announced more than $23 million in support for arts organizations in Ohio [ [link removed] ].?The funds are being awarded as part of the first round of the Ohio Arts Economic Relief Grant Program. A total of?139 organizations based in 35 counties [ [link removed] ] are receiving grants.?
