Team –

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and I wanted to take the opportunity to lift some of our work to increase access to quality care and to end the stigma around mental health and substance use disorder.

As you know, these issues are personal to me and my family – and I’m committed to being a forceful mental health advocate in Congress. Together, my team and I have:

Introduced the Maximizing Opioid Recovery Emergency (MORE) Savings Act to lower the financial burden of treatment options

Secured a Project AWARE grant so students in PA-04 can access and benefit from comprehensive mental health care services

Introduced the Homelessness and Behavioral Health Care Coordination Act to provide more streamlined support for people struggling with homelessness and behavioral health issues

Signed a letter demanding full funding for mental health services through the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
Introduced the Breakthrough Therapies Act – bipartisan legislation to lower barriers to research into the compassionate use of two innovative and potentially lifesaving psychedelic treatments (including MDMA and psilocybin to treat PTSD)

Had our legislation – the STOIC Act – signed into law to increase funding and access to suicide prevention care for law enforcement officers

Mental health and addiction are challenges, not moral failures – and challenges have solutions.

The only moral failure is that our default position toward folks facing these challenges has historically not been one of compassion and support. In Congress, I’ve made it my mission to change that.

If you agree that it’s well past time we drop the stigma around mental health and addiction, to find holistic, effective solutions, please add your name alongside mine here.

I value your support – especially on these most important issues for so many families.
