In the News: Georgia’s National Championship Football Team Rejects Biden Invite To White House Celebration

The University of Georgia’s football team has rejected an invitation from President Joe Biden to celebrate their blowout victory in the national championship game against Texas Christian University.


The team was invited to visit with first lady Jill Biden on June 12 for “College Athlete Day,” according to a report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. However, the team said in a statement that their calendar is already full.

H.R. 1777 – US-Israel Future of Warfare Act (Rep. Wilson, R-SC)

- Establishes a R&D fund to deepen defense collaboration to meet these emerging threats, authorized at $50 million annually through FY28.

 

H.R. 1277 – Military Spouse Hiring Act (Rep. Beyer, D-VA)

- As the military spouse unemployment rate continues to stay around 20% for the last decade, this bill would add military spouses as a qualified group eligible for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit.

 

H.R. 1841 – Purple Heart Freedom to Work Act (Rep. Scott, R-GA)

- Increases the monthly income limit used to determine whether certain Purple Heart recipients are eligible for Social Security Disability benefits. Currently, combat wounded veterans can be penalized and are at risk of losing 100% SSDI for making above the set amount per month.
- This bill would raise the limit amount from $1,220 per month to $2,040 per month.
