Monday’s general meeting had the highest turnout of any New Orleans DSA meeting yet in the history of our chapter! It was great to see so many new faces. Thank you for joining our movement.
Here are the detailed minutes from the meeting.
The treasurer reported that our recent fundraiser was very successful and we have seen an increase in the number of monthly donors to our chapter. We have been spending our money conservatively, and the general fund is in good shape. Full Report here
An official protocol for amending the chapter budget
The reorganization and rebranding of the Labor Committee as Worker Power Louisiana, which will move toward a worker’s center model and increase outreach
We joined a coalition of local organizations campaigning for a progressive district attorney to replace Leon Cannizzaro in this fall’s election
The dissolution of the Communications Committee; communications will restructure as an operational subcommittee of the Local Council in the near future
We amended the budget to provide travel funds for members to this spring’s Labor Notes conference
Membership Survey
If you haven’t done so yet or are new to New Orleans DSA, please fill out our membership survey. Our goal is to get an accurate cross-section of information about different aspects of our members’ lives. Our next steps may include following up on this information individually to organize our membership by neighborhood, job industry, and school.
EVENTS THIS WEEK
DSA For Bernie Canvass 2/8, 12:00 - 3:00 pm
Upper Ninth Ward Come knock doors with us and help spread the word about Bernie Sander’s campaign for president and how we can build a movement to win a living wage, Medicare for All, a Green New Deal and democracy in the workplace. No experience necessary, we will have a short training beforehand. All materials provided
Growth and Diversity WG 2/12, 6:30 - 8:00 pm
TBD Join GDWG to reflect on our current membership survey, outreach strategy, and mobilizing efforts as part of a larger plan to intentionally recruit members to our chapter through struggle. We'll reflect on how the working group has operated so far and plan the next steps for 2020.
Brake Light Clinic 2/15, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
1430 N. Dorgenois St. Each month, we replace brake lights for free for anyone who needs them in an attempt to reduce unnecessary police interactions. We also teach anyone who'd like to learn how to change brake lights, so stop by even if you don't have a car! We'll have cold drinks and snacks. This month's clinic will start with some food to get us fueled up and a volunteer training from 11am-12pm at Parish Hall. We will then head over to the triangle park at the intersection of N. Dorgenois and Bayou Road where we'll change brake lights from 1-4pm. No experience necessary!
