Dear John:

Because Democrats ignored the immigration crisis, this country is now facing a record amount of illegal immigrants, many of them known criminals, and a fentanyl overdose epidemic. And we are woefully unprepared for the even stronger surge that will come with the end of Title 42.

Republicans know that border security is national security and are committed to securing our border and putting a stop to this immigration crisis. This week, House Republicans passed H.R. 2, theSecure the Border Act. This bill will secure the border by forcing the Biden Administration to restart construction of the border wall, deploy technology to the northern and southern border, and increase the number of Border Patrol agents and provide bonus pay. It will combat illegal immigration by ending catch and release, strengthening and streamlining the asylum process, and strengthening current law to protect unaccompanied children from human trafficking.

Republicans have made a commitment to America and we will continue to deliver on that commitment.

Trade Field Hearing

I kicked the week off with a Ways and Means field hearing on securing supply chains and protecting the American worker in Staten Island, NY. It was the first in a series focusing on trade. My colleagues and I heard from business leaders about the importance of strengthening American trade and cutting red tape so our labor-dependent industries can expand their workforce.

These field hearings are so important because it gives us the opportunity to learn from the people our work and our policies impact. I was grateful to hear from Mr. Hemminger and the other panelists about the need to expand the workforce and cut down on the bureaucracy if we want to protect America's labor-dependent industries like so many agricultural jobs in my district, and I will certainly keep their concerns and ideas in mind as my colleagues and I work to solve the serious workforce issues this country is facing.

Exposing the Woke, Wasteful, and Bloated

This week, the Budget Committee held a hearing on exposing the woke, wasteful and bloated in government spending. Throughout the hearing, my colleagues on the other side of the aisle made plenty of emotional pleas, but they took no responsibility for the out-of-control spending that has been going on in the federal government, and offered no solutions. The crazy spending needs to stop and it's time for Democrats to come to the table to find real solutions to cut back.
