Tainted Public Safety Bill

Friends,

As expected, In a late-night print with an all democrat conference committee, they wrapped the worst public safety bill I have seen in my 11 years working in Saint Paul.

Democrats shoved gun control into this bill at the last minute passing At 2:32am, 10 democrats, with zero republican input or voices, adopted the WORST public safety bill in my time representing District 2 at the Capitol.

In a shady and disgusting display of legislative process, after sitting on the policy portion of the bill for weeks, there will be no amendments or direct discussion on the provisions being adopted. The Extreme protection (Red Flag) laws in this bill have already been found to be unconstitutional in other States. Firearms storage, and the criminalizing of private firearms transfers and sales.

I think it’s worth noting that also included in this bill are new sentencing guidelines which will let felony offenders out early, reduce the minimum sentencing from 2/3rds (67%) served to 50%. Well emptying our prisons, Democrats are legislating ineffective gun laws which stands in opposition to the majority of Law Enforcement agencies who I have spoken to on this matter, like our Sheriff’s in District 2.

Whilst they are criminalizing law-abiding citizens, and letting felon’s out, they are funneling tens of millions into community policing as they continue their divestment from practical law enforcement.

Also another small detail, the bill infuses Gender identity throughout the Human Rights Act. And stripped out current law concerning pedophilia. This will put pedophiles in a protected class.

Lastly If democrats were serious about stopping mass shootings, illegal guns transactions, and the like, we would be working hard to get and KEEP violent offenders behind bars. They  would have also supported the GOP School Safety measures and funding in the Education bill if they were serious about preventing mass casualty events at our most vulnerable establishments; they would not have killed our $200 million dollar allotment for school safe aids with an $18 billion dollar surplus.

There are of course several other provisions in this bill worthy of note, but with no republicans in conference, and 12 hours to respond, I'm working through everything. Some thoughts or questions to ponder:

Will this make children safer in Minnesota?

Will the general public be safer?

Is the expectation that people serve their sentences something that is actually unreasonable, or are we opening our prisons in the name of equity?

Why are democrats leaving the opportunity for sex offenders to be out on early release?

Steve

Sincerely,

Steve Green
