Dear AFGE Members,
Mental Health Awareness Month is an important time for us to reflect on our own mental health, the mental health of those around us, and the role that unions can play in fostering supportive, compassionate, and productive workplaces that are conducive to strong emotional well-being.
As Union Members, we know that the workplace can be a stressful environment. Whether it's dealing with high job demands, poor relationships with supervisors or colleagues, navigating challenging situations, or simply trying to balance work and personal life, our jobs can take a toll on our mental well-being.
That’s why it’s essential for AFGE to prioritize mental health awareness and education, advocate for policies that promote mental health, such as workplace flexibility, reasonable work hours, access to mental health resources, negotiate for mental health benefits, and fight for accommodations for workers who need them.
Join WFP on May 31, 2023, from 7-8 pm ET for a Mental Health Awareness Training. Through this virtual training, we will share best practices on how to increase mental health awareness amongst union members, recognize stigmas and discuss how to support members in the workplace. You will learn to:
● Understand the impact of mental health and wellness in the workplace
● Recognize common mental health challenges and stigmas that prevent getting help
● Support and engage in practices that support emotional well-being
● Help you speak more openly about mental health
