Greater Georgia Newsletter May 12, 2023 As Greater Georgia works to wrap up our issues advocacy efforts for the 2023 legislative session, we’re turning our focus to 2024. With a date officially set for the March 12, 2024 presidential primary - there are just over 300 days until it's Election Day again in Georgia. It's why we've already started working to register and engage voters to grow the conservative movement. There’s plenty left to do in 2023 - so please read on, and get involved! LATEST NEWS FIRST ANNUAL GREATER GEORGIA LEGISLATIVE AWARDS CEREMONY Wednesday, April 26 Greater Georgia honored conservative legislators at our first annual Greater Georgia Legislative Awards Ceremony. The audience of more than 200 heard from special guest speakers, including Governor Brian Kemp, First Lady Marty Kemp, Lt. Governor Burt Jones, and Speaker of the House Jon Burns. We were thrilled to present leadership awards to ten state lawmakers - and are already looking forward to next year's ceremony! Read more about the event and view additional photos HERE. SENATE BILL 222 SIGNING Wednesday, May 3 Last week, Greater Georgia Chairwoman Kelly Loeffler had the honor of joining Governor Kemp for the bill signing of SB 222. The legislation was initially introduced in February after Greater Georgia blew the whistle on DeKalb County, which covertly sought and then accepted $2 million in grant funding from the Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL). Now that the bill has become law, local boards of election are banned from accepting outside money, also known as "Zuckerbucks," to pay for elections. Read our press release about the bill signing HERE, read coverage in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution HERE, or read an excerpt of Kelly's statement below: "I am deeply grateful to the Governor for signing SB 222 into law, and to all our conservative lawmakers who took immediate action to stop partisan influence in our elections when Greater Georgia blew the whistle on it earlier this year. This is a tremendous win not only for our organization but for every Georgia voter - and we will never stop fighting to hold bad actors accountable, to deliver free and fair elections in the state of Georgia." HISPANIC OUTREACH CAMPAIGN Friday, May 5 Last week, we launched our latest Hispanic Voter Outreach Campaign. The campaign, which includes Spanish-language digital ads and in-person events, aims to inform voters about key legislative achievements during the 2023 Legislative Session. The effort encourages Hispanic citizens to register to vote and engage in the electoral process. View our press release about the initiative HERE and view a sample of the ads below: HISPANIC VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE Sunday, May 7 As part of our outreach campaign, we spent time this weekend at La Victoria in Gwinnett County - registering Hispanic voters at a local supermercado. View photos below! YOUTH VOTER OUTREACH Friday, April 21 Greater Georgia continues to focus heavily on voter registration and education within high schools and colleges across Georgia. Last month, our staff visited Gainesville High School to meet with their Teen Republican chapter. We talked about conservative values, taught them how to set up a voter registration drive, and even registered a few new voters. COMMUNITY REGISTRATION DRIVES Flowery Branch Spring Festival on April 22 Johns Creek International Festival on April 29 Our interns, staff, and volunteers were also out several times this past month at community gatherings, registering and educating voters on the importance of supporting - and voting for - conservative values. COBB COUNTY REPUBLICAN WOMEN Friday, May 5 Greater Georgia Chairwoman Kelly Loeffler was honored to speak to conservative women at the Cobb County Republican Women's "Spring into Action" event. You can read coverage of Kelly's remarks HERE from the Marietta Daily Journal, or read an excerpt below: “The beauty of working year-round every year is when something comes up like a special election … we can be ready, we can mobilize, we can make sure that people get out the vote, so we’re going to make sure that we’re always ready, and then when ‘24 is here we’re going to be organized. We’re not going to let them catch us unaware or unprepared or get outworked because none of us are willing to be outworked."
