Happy Mother's Day🌻

"Fly, fly, and fly to freedom.

Because when we leave our houses and our loved ones, we fly to blessed freedom.

The simple freedom of having our daily bread and being free from the extreme poverty and violence that plague our countries."

Today we are thinking of all mothers whose strength, love and sacrifices guide and inspire all of us. We celebrate all forms of motherhood we have seen across so many years of border work.

We're thinking of those who've had to cross deserts and oceans in search of safety and opportunity. The moms in Tijuana shelters who reassure their children against the uncertainties they face. We're thinking of deported mothers, mothers in detention centers, and so many more.

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers, everywhere.

Shelter Aid:
[link removed]
Our Shelter Aid program continues to support 14 migrant shelters in Tijuana. These shelters house anywhere from a dozen to 1600 migrants at once, and their residents include mew, women, children, and LGBTQI+ folks. When you donate to this program you help support migrant families by covering their rent, meals, utilities, and more.

This year we were able to bring back our Caravans of Love, and we are able to provide physical donations in-person to Tijuana shelters. Our next Caravan of Love will take place in one month, on Saturday, June 10th to celebrate International Children’s Day. Click here to sign up. ([link removed])

News Spotlight:

Title 42 ends today. Here’s what’s happening at the San Diego-Tijuana border.
At 8:59 p.m. tonight, a major policy that fundamentally changed migrant processing at the border will end.

Title 42, put in place with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, blocked asylum seekers and other migrants from entering ports of entry and expelled them back to Mexico if they crossed the border without permission. Though legal battles kept the policy around longer than the Biden administration intended, the public health emergency order that made the policy possible is expiring at the end of today — 11:59 p.m. Eastern time — meaning that Title 42 must end as well.

In its place, the Biden administration has prepared a slew of policy changes aimed to punish asylum seekers who cross the border without using a smartphone application called CBP One to make appointments at ports of entry to request protection in the United States.

Border Patrol has been holding migrants for extended periods of time between the border walls in the region since at least October of last year, but the practice became more frequently observed in recent months. Recently, the agency has added a portable toilet, and agents began putting wristbands on the migrants that say which day they were apprehended.

The migrants waiting on Wednesday complained of cold, wet nights and lack of food. One woman from Ecuador said she hadn’t eaten in three days. She waited in a group by the border wall closer to Tijuana to get food from food delivery workers.

Florida GOP passes sweeping anti-immigration bill that gives DeSantis $12 million for migrant transports
Florida Republicans on Tuesday handed Gov. Ron DeSantis another legislative victory after lawmakers signed off on a sweeping anti-immigration measure that will guarantee millions of dollars more for a controversial program the governor used to fly migrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard.

DeSantis, who is expected to announce a run for president in the coming weeks, has repeatedly faulted President Joe Biden’s immigration policies and regularly criticizes the administration’s handling of the surge of migrants crossing into the U.S. at the southern border.

The governor and his Republican allies contended that the newly approved bill will send a “message” to the Biden administration, while Democrats countered the legislation was overtly cruel and intimidating to migrants.
