With the termination of Title 42 on Thursday, the public health order issued under the Trump administration to expel thousands of migrants at the southern border, the American people are rightfully concerned about the serious lapse in operational control. Are members of the Border Patrol prepared for the surge of new migrants? What will be done to combat the inevitable rise of fentanyl trafficking? Will more terror watchlist suspects attempt to enter our country and evade the authorities? These are just a handful of important questions that should be answered.
More than five million illegal crossings have been recorded at the southern border since President Biden took office – and more than 1.3 million illegal aliens, referred to as “gotaways”, have escaped into our country. More than 14,000 pounds of fentanyl have been seized by Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) officers – enough to kill over 3.1 billion people. What’s more, in just the first six months of fiscal year (FY) 2023, 80 people whose names appear on the terrorist watchlist were stopped trying to cross the southern border. This total is more than the encounters in all FY17, FY18, FY19, FY20, and FY21 combined.
President Biden’s open border policies have created several detrimental effects – one of which being the eruption of violent crime that has penetrated communities across our nation. This week, I took a stand and introduced the Justice for Victims of Open Borders Act, a bill that would yield targeted reforms to grant disbursements through the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) so that states must give priority to victims of violent crimes committed by people who are in the United States illegally. What’s more, House Republicans just passed H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023, which fulfills our promise to deliver solutions to a catastrophe that affects not just cities and states along the border – but every city and state across the country. From increasing the number of Border Patrol agents to restarting construction of the border wall, this legislation is primed with commonsense solutions that put the safety of the American people first while reinforcing our national security posture. President Biden and the Democrat-controlled Senate should follow our lead and act immediately.
The Rest of The Story
On May 5th, the Department of Labor released new numbers showing that 253,000 jobs had been added in the month of April, and in the same breath, the Department pivoted 180 degrees and announced that previous job numbers from both February and March were incorrect and quietly revised them. March’s initial jobs growth of 236,000 was shaved down to 165,000 while February’s was pared back to 248,000 from 326,000. I question why the Biden administration paints such rosy pictures of jobs reports, and then quietly rearranges them in the background. Larry Kudlow of Fox Business pointed this out in a recent interview, and explained why these revisions to previous jobs reports reveal that the jobs market is weakening instead of growing.
I highly encourage you to watch his interview and look at the numbers for yourself to see the rest of the story.
New Scam Alert
Drivers in cities across North Carolina are being targeted in a scam involving fake parking tickets. In this scam, bad actors use portable printers – like ones used by real parking enforcement officers – and tag cars in mere seconds. These tickets can feature fraudulent QR codes or even fake websites that prompt victims to input their sensitive financial information to pay off an alleged “fine”. Unfortunately, this is not a new scam – in January of this year, the Better Business Bureau of North Carolina reported numerous instances of drivers in Charlotte who had fallen victim to fake parking tickets.
