I don't want to take too much of your time, but I wanted to give you a quick update on this race for Kentucky governor.

The primary election is almost here. Soon, I'll know who my opponent is for the general. And what I can tell you from experience is: things are about to heat up.

John, this race has already been expensive. My opponents have spent millions in just the past months competing for the nomination. Once an opponent is declared, even more money will be spent to try and defeat me.

I want to make sure we hit the ground running as the next challenging phase of this election begins, but I can only do that with your support. Before the primary, will you chip in any amount to my re-election campaign and help me start the general election off strong?

I'll be honest, John, we're entering the general election in a solid position. My approval ratings are strong — the highest of any Democratic governor in the U.S. – because Kentuckians have seen the progress we've made for people across the Commonwealth. But we can't take anything for granted.

I won the race for governor in 2019 by just over 5,000 votes, and this is the most competitive race of the year. My opponent will have the support of millions of dollars in spending from outside groups and wealthy donors who want to see me out of office.

We've made a record amount of progress for our Commonwealth in the last three years, but there's still work to be done. I'm counting on your support to win this race so we can protect that progress.
