Dear John,
Care comes in many different forms – and so do our families. With Mother’s Day around the corner, it may bring feelings of joy and warmth for some, while for others, what comes up may be very painful. For me, I’m not just thinking of my daughter, who made me a mother, but I’m also thinking of my mom, who raised me and who I’m now caregiving for.
Mother’s Day is a reminder to show gratitude for the mamas or parental figures who have given us care as we grew into the world. It’s also a reminder that we have a long way to go to support our family members as they age. Our families and mamas deserve comprehensive care programs for every stage of our lives – no matter the income level.
Below, you can find a few ways to support and send love to families and moms this Mother’s Day.
* Share our Mother’s Day graphic - Send love to all the mamas in your life by sharing our Mama’s Day graphic on your own social feed. [[link removed]]
* Join Moms Demand Action for a rally for an assault weapons ban - Text the word RALLY to 644-33 to RSVP for an action in your area this Saturday, May 13. [[link removed]]
* Support the Black Mama’s Bail Out - Thousands of Black women who can’t afford bail languish in US jails for months without a conviction for things no one should be jailed for. This exposes them to more stressors that impact their health. Help join an effort to free as many Black Mamas and caregivers as possible so they can spend Mother’s Day with their families. Mother’s Day is a day filled with a wide range of thoughts and emotions. We want to acknowledge those who have different experiences because we live in a world where families take so many different shapes and sizes. Whether they’re inherited or chosen, all of our families deserve care. We won’t stop fighting until we get it. Thank you for fighting with us.
With care,
