Underwater explosion and gas leak

John,

Oil giant Total is racing to expand one of the dirtiest gas projects in the world in the pristine waters of the Timor Sea – and if it succeeds, it will be extracting gas until 2061!

It can only do this because AXA and SCOR are backing the project. If we cut off this support, we can stop this expansion and prevent 499 million more tonnes of CO2 destroying the planet.

Shutting down this massive fossil fuel project takes a lot of time and money. To stop it, we need to take on the Australian government, a multi-billion fossil fuel company, and two multinational finance giants! But we’re not worried…we have you, John, and our powerful global community with us in this fight. And we’ve already forced one major insurer to drop the project!

With your support we will:

  • Deliver hard-hitting stunts at AXA and SCOR headquarters that we’ll then get splashed across international media;
  • Launch a brand damaging ad campaign to tarnish their precious reputation as climate leaders and call out their greenwashing one spoof video at a time;
  • Produce high quality, viral videos that bring people from all over the world together to speak out and take action;
  • Bring the voices of frontline activists to key decision makers and push leaders to drop this dirty gas project;

...and that’s just the beginning!

Total is pushing to expand this project NOW – so we need to act quickly.

John, if everyone reading this email chipped in $3, we could fully fund this campaign for a year – can you donate to power this fight and get this dirty gas project shut down for good?

This is one of the world’s biggest oil and gas projects – in the top one percent. If expanded, it will emit as much CO2 as Australia does in just one year and tear through two natural reserves where endangered species like loggerhead turtles and humpback whales live. One leak could wipe out the last of these species forever.

Momentum is on our side. With an all out push powered by members like you, we can stop this dirty gas project.

In the last two years, we’ve had incredible wins targeting AXA and SCOR. We’ve pushed them to adopt a new oil and gas exclusion policy thanks to your support to run bold tactics just like these.

In 2021, after taking on a full-page ad in the Financial Times, publishing an open letter and launching a global petition we got AXA CEO Thomas Buberl to announce a new policy to stop backing some new destructive oil and gas projects, including fracking, Arctic drilling and tar sands production. Then we won big again last year against SCOR, getting its CEO Laurent Rousseau to announce – in front of shareholders no less – a brand new policy against insuring new oil projects.

Our team is revving to go…now we just need the funds to launch this amazing campaign. Can you donate today to power our campaign to get this dirty gas project shut down for good?

Total (now TotalEnergies) is one of the top six oil and gas companies in the world. Stopping this disastrous project would be a huge win for the planet and for everyone.

Thanks for all that you do,
Yasmin, Daphne, Ildem, Leyla and the Ekō team
