#LowcountryFirst Pass In Review | May 12, 2023

Congratulations Class of 2023!

Hello and happy Friday! Welcome to another Washington update.

We started the week in the district with the ribbon cutting of Elbit America’s newest Ground Combat Vehicle Assembly and Integration Center of Excellence. This opening represents a significant investment in our district, with the future of national defense and security in the hands of South Carolinians.

We then traveled to the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command to tour and visit our student sailors and their facility. This school produces the best of the best future sailors who will go on to serve our country.

This week in the Oversight Committee, we brought the facts. It does not matter whether you have an R or a D next to your name - fraud and corruption must be investigated to the fullest extent of the law. If the DOJ and the FBI refuse to look into alleged corruption, then the House Oversight Committee will do it for them.

To watch the press conference, look here.

To check out our conversation with Trey Gowdy on the issue, you can watch it here.

Our Oversight Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Government Innovation held a hearing on the costly inaction on federal legacy IT this week. For years, the federal government has spent billions of dollars on outdated technology with no streamlining effect on future modernization efforts. It is time the government gets with the times and sends us into the future so we can best meet the needs of citizens. Watch the full committee here.

This week we celebrated National Golf Day, and got to spend some time with 2022 Presidents Cup captain Davis Love III and this year’s Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson. Back in the 117th Congress, we founded the Congressional Golf Caucus. Here in South Carolina, we have astonishing courses which have held major events. As you all may know, every year Hilton Head Island holds the Heritage Golf Tournament, which brings in thousands of people to our district. This caucus allows us to better represent our courses here in the Lowcountry (which are the best in our opinion).

Our office wishes to congratulate the Class of 2023 at The Citadel, College of Charleston, Charleston Southern, Trident Tech, and all of our high school graduates. Good luck with your future endeavors! A special congratulations to our staffer Eve who will be graduating from the College of Charleston today!

The Charleston Greek Festival kicks off today! Be sure to swing by and enjoy the festivities. You can learn more about the festival here!

As a heads up, the submissions for the Congressional Art Competition have CLOSED! We will announce the competition's winner soon - so stay tuned!

Our office has recently started a new series called “Sunday Sunsets.” If you live in the district and want to show off your beautiful sunset picture, drop it here.

As you all may know, when we aren’t in DC, we are hosting one of our Lowcountry events such as Coffee or Cocktails With Your Congresswoman. To stay in the loop on when we hold our events, stay subscribed to our newsletter and follow our Eventbrite page!

We are always here to assist you with any issues or concerns. Please feel free to reach out to us.

It is an honor to serve each and every one of you.

Have a great weekend and happy Mother's Day to all of our mothers here in South Carolina and across the country.

Sincerely,

Congresswoman Nancy Mace
