Legislative Update
Congratulations to Greg Kimman, the city engineer for Little Falls, for being presented with a certificate of commendation from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. This award recognizes the wastewater treatment facility for its outstanding compliance with PCA standards in the 2022 review. I am glad to know that our water is being managed with the utmost care. Great job and thank you to the wonderful team over at the Little Falls Wastewater Management.
This last week I have been involved in some final negotiations for a couple projects in our area.? I secured some of the final investment for the Minnesota Military Museum.? This funding was passed by the House and Senate and I am grateful to bring this project to completion.?
I am also on the education conference committee, and I am trying to find some compromise on some critical provisions.? One trouble aspect is to take the discipline away from our school administration.? A provision in the bill will prohibit suspensions for younger students. ?Unfortunately, there is conflict in our schools and there are times when students need to be disciplined. I cannot support more state intrusion into the daily jobs of school administrators.
We are less than two weeks away from session being completed and we still don?t have meaningful tax reform and property tax relief.? This means the inflation we are feeling will not be offset by smart tax policy and cuts.? This expensive session is going to reduce family spending.? People will be paying more taxes and not fixing cars, saving for college, or taking vacations.
This is an expensive budget for the middle class that has been devastated by the last two years of economic turmoil.?
Happy Mother?s Day on Sunday, hopefully you will be making time with family to show your appreciation for all that our moms do. Whether with breakfast in bed or a nice dinner out, this is a day to celebrate and honor all the love, care, and sacrifices our moms have made for us. They are the backbone of our family, and we cannot thank them enough for everything you do. May your day be filled with joy, love, and relaxation.
