Friends, Yesterday our nation endured a gut-wrenching vote in the Senate. A vote that changed the landscape of how this and future presidents will be held accountable. At issue is not whether the president was guilty—we have undeniable bipartisan agreement that he is GUILTY of ABUSE OF POWER. What is truly atissue is whether elected officials can choose to place party, power, and money above their responsibility to protecting our democracy. This vote came after a Tuesday night election rally that masqueraded as the State of the Union address. There we witnessed as Trump repeatedly lied about supporting pre-existing conditions (his DOJ is currently suing to stop coverage),reducing drug prices (according to CBS, 2019 price hikes surged to 5x inflation), and about the U.S. becoming a leading exporter of oil/gas under his watch (this occurred under Obama). There were many, many other lies. Further, as part of this disgraceful display, the President bestowed our nation’s highest civilian honor on the head of a man who has devoted his life to insulting and marginalizing women, African Americans, immigrants, and members of the LGBTQ community. Chip Roy voted against Impeachment, going against what 75% of our nation believed to be right and necessary. This November, we must hold elected officials like Roy—and the man in the White House he answers to—accountable to the 69 million Americans who have voted to save our democracy.
