According to the Dallas Morning News, Gov. Greg Abbott rejected the need for gun control stating that tougher gun laws haven’t stopped mass shootings before in an interview about the tragedy at an Allen shopping mall last weekend. However, Abbott's statement falls short of explaining the influences on gun policy in Texas. Texas Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, as well as Texas Representatives Pete Session and Dan Crenshaw, are all among the top recipients of contributions from gun rights donors in the 118th Congress. Gun rights group have contributed a total of $15 million to members of the 118th Congress. Comparatively, Rep. Lizzie Fletcher is the only Texan among the top recipients of contributions from gun control donors in the 118th Congress where its members have recieved a total of $6.2 million from gun control donors. |
