Community-based Care

What to Know: The number of foster children in Texas who slept in CPS offices, rather than real homes, increased last year.

The TPPF Take: Community-based care is the answer to unsafe foster care placement.

“Community-based care is the localization of the Texas Foster Care system,” says TPPF’s Nikki Pressley. “Under CBC, Texas is divided into 17 regions. Currently, three regions have begun implementing CBC, all producing promising results such as increased placement stability and keeping more sibling groups together.”

Endangered Rights

What to Know: The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department added 45 species to its “threatened” species list.

The TPPF Take: TPWD actions are a step back for the property rights of Texans.

“These designations were based on flawed data and unreliable, incomplete information,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke. “What’s more, the TPWD list of 45 species includes 39 species not currently regulated by the federal government. TPWD’s actions give radical environmental groups a to-do list of new species to pursue for federal listing.”

Step Up

What to Know: U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx joins TPPF’s Ellen Troxclair on the Step Up with Ellen Troxclair podcast this week. She represents North Carolina’s Fifth Congressional District.

The TPPF Take: “Congresswoman Foxx lived in a home without running water or electricity until she was 14 years old and has worked her way up from extreme poverty to one of the most powerful jobs in the country,” said TPPF’s Ellen Troxclair. “She tells us about her journey and the advice she has for others to succeed.”
