Hey John,
Here's an unfun fact as we honor AAPI Heritage Month:
Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders make up less than 1% of elected leaders, despite being the fastest growing demographic in the country.
Less than 1%. As the political voice and power of the AAPI community grows, it is our responsibility to support and amplify young progressive AAPI leaders running for office.
With your support, that's exactly what we're going to do. We've endorsed eight new AAPI candidates with elections this year - with more to come. Show your support by reading about their journeys (then give them a follow!) as they fight to build sustainable representational political power.
The AAPI community faces a lot of unique challenges, including a continued rise in AAPI violence, hate, and discrimination.
Stronger and more diverse representation means that not only would our political system be better able to address these challenges and support their communities, but more representation also opens up the next generation’s imagination about what’s possible.
If we want a stronger democracy, we need more Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to run for office, and we need to step up and support them when they do – not just this month, but all year long.
