John,

My name is Lucy, and I'm writing to you today as a high school student who survived a school shooting. Four years ago, two shooters opened fire at STEM School Highlands Ranch in Colorado, and my life was forever changed.

Kendrick Castillo, a fellow student, lost his life when he heroically rushed towards one of the shooters. His selfless act saved lives, but as a consequence his own life was cut short.

Today, as I prepare to walk across the stage and accept my diploma, I know the pain of losing Kendrick and the trauma of that day will never leave me. But in the face of this tragedy - and hundreds more shootings since then - congressional Republicans have done nothing to address the horror of gun violence in our communities. Instead, they mostly go back-and-forth between howls proclaiming their own false victimhood and savage attacks on anyone who disagrees with them.

Boebert is not just any elected official. She revels in causing fear and promoting policies that prioritize gun rights over human life, and she mocks anyone who dares to challenge her extremism. She's a dangerous politician who is unfit to serve in Congress.

We need leaders who understand that the only way to address gun violence is to face the reality about guns. We need leaders who are committed to enacting common-sense gun reform that will save lives. We need leaders who are willing to stand up to the gun lobby and fight for what's right.

That's why I'm proud to support the Colorado Turnout Project—taking action to elect sensible leaders who put the safety of Colorado communities first. In the 2022 Midterm, I partnered with CTP to share my story with over 130,000 voters in both Boebert’s district and in the new CO-08 district to help Dr. Yadira Caraveo get over the finish line and bring Boebert within 600 votes of defeat.

With your help, we can make sure that 2024 is the year that people like Lauren Boebert are kicked out of office and replaced with leaders who are committed to common sense gun reforms.

Please join me in supporting Colorado Turnout Project—every dollar you contribute will go directly to voter turnout and persuasion efforts, helping to elect leaders who stand up for real Colorado families: not firearms manufacturers and the NRA.

Sincerely,

-Lucy S.
