Featured Funding OpportunitiesPromoting Resilient Operations for Transformative, Efficient, and Cost-Saving Transportation (PROTECT) ProgramThe vision of the PROTECT Grant Program is to fund projects that address the climate crisis by improving the resilience of the surface transportation system, including highways, public transportation, ports, and intercity passenger rail.By funding projects that improve resilience to natural hazards and climate change impacts, the Program aims to reduce damage and disruption to the transportation system, improve the safety of the traveling public, and improve equity by addressing the needs of disadvantaged populations that are often the most vulnerable to hazards.The Application Deadline is Tuesday, August 18, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. (ET). Department of Energy Renew America's Nonprofits ProgramThe U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recently announced a first-of-its-kind investment to fund energy-efficiency improvements in the nonprofit sector. The Renew America's Nonprofits program will reduce carbon emissions and lower utilities costs at buildings owned and operated by 501(c)(3) nonprofits, allowing critical funds to be redirected to mission-focused work.The application window has not opened yet, but the DOE is gathering information for the “Teaming Partner List” to facilitate the formation of project teams. The Teaming Partner List allows organizations who may wish to partner on an application to express their interest to other applicants and to explore potential partnerships. EPA 2023 Clean School Bus (CSB) Grant Program The EPA’s Office of Transportation and Air Quality is announcing the availability of funds and soliciting applications to incentivize and accelerate the replacement of existing school buses with clean and Zero Emissions (ZE) school buses. Eligible activities include the replacement of existing internal-combustion engine (ICE) school buses with electric, propane, or compressed natural gas (CNG) school buses, as well as the purchase of electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) infrastructure and EVSE installations.The Application Deadline is Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. (ET). Featured Grant AwardTonko Cheers $936K Grant Award for UAlbany to Research Mental Health & Addiction ServicesLast week, I announced the awarding of $936,414 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment to the University at Albany to advance best practices for providing screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment to prevent and address gambling among college students. This funding, which comes from HHS’ Mental Health & Substance Abuse Service Grants program, represents the first installment of a grant that will award UAlbany more than $4.8 million over the next five years to support this research.This funding will help ensure that young adults who are struggling with substance use and gambling problems have access to the timely and responsive support they need to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
