This time last week, our team was convening the first ever Anti-Monopoly Summit; today I’m writing to celebrate it! Our Summit was nothing short of a successful, joyful day which demonstrated the momentum and growth of the Anti-Monopoly movement — a movement for all people, not just antitrust lawyers and economists.
Together, in person, with more than 260 business owners, labor leaders, advocates, state and federal public officials — and 9,000 online supporters — we explored all facets of the anti-monopoly framework animating policymakers across the country, and the hurdles to sustain it.
We had a star-studded line up of plenary speakers from the Biden administration, agencies, Congress, and states who are each leading the charge to turn the page on decades of neoliberal policy and who have pledged to utilize their authority to forcefully take on corporate monopolies. We had keynote speeches from Senator Klobuchar, NEC Director Brainard, NLRB General Counsel Abruzzo, CFPB Director Chopra, and Secretary Buttigieg, along with plenary conversations featuring FTC Chair Khan, AAG Kanter, Congresswoman Summer Lee, and New York Senator Gianaris. And closed out the day with President Joe Biden himself, who emphasized his administration’s commitment to “reverse the decades of concentrated corporate power, continuing to lower prices for consumers, and increasing opportunities for workers and small business owners.”
For our team at Economic Liberties, this day was a capstone to the important work we have been doing, alongside our partners, since we launched three years ago. It demonstrated indisputably the power and political salience of the anti-monopoly movement. And we will continue to to build on this momentum.
Below are some highlights of the day. If you were unable to catch it live, you can watch mainstage sessions from the Summit here, or read key coverage in Politico, MarketWatch, BloombergLaw, and PoliticoPro.
We hope you’ll take a look!
Break ‘em up!
