John, while Mother's Day in the US is celebrated during the second Sunday in May (this weekend!), a variety of Latin American countries celebrated Mother's Day yesterday !
Feliz DΓa de las Madres a mi mejor amiga, the most important woman in my life: my mother, Maria Elvira Ramirez.

I've never been shy about my mother and her journey to the US, but I want to dive into how she's made me the person I am today.
I pride myself on not being afraid to put in the work. Where did I learn it from? My mother worked long hours and multiple jobs β home care jobs and in jewelry stores β to help make ends meet for our family.
I pride myself on being the First Latina from the Midwest to be elected to Congress. I love being a role model to women and girls across the country, but I couldn't have done it without seeing how strong and resilient my mother could be.
And most importantly, I pride myself on my dedication to the community. While we regularly volunteered at our church's shelter β my mother made food for over 100 people and I was eager to hear their stories β my mother was teaching me and my siblings the importance of taking care of your friends and neighbors.
John, my mother is my rock, my biggest cheerleader, and my motivation through it all. It's important that I tell her story not from a place of vulnerability, but from one of strength.
And that's exactly what I'm working to do. John, I want this message to reach as many people as possible, but with increasing resident outreach costs, I need your help. Will you donate today and support this grateful-daughter-turned- congresista ? [[link removed]]
