I’m Ron Barber, the former Congressman for Southern Arizona. 

In 2011, I was working as Representative Gabby Gifford’s District Director. Everything changed after a lone gunman opened fire at a constituent event. Nineteen people were shot — including myself — and six lives were tragically lost.

After Rep. Giffords stepped down to focus on her rehabilitation, at her behest, I ran to fill the vacancy. I ran because Southern Arizona deserved a representative who put them first, who would work across the aisle when it made sense, and who wasn’t afraid to tackle the biggest issues facing us today.

Those reasons are also why I’m proud to endorse Kirsten Engel today for Arizona’s Sixth Congressional District.

I know Kirsten has what it takes to fight for Arizona. She’ll listen to constituents from across her district, and advocate for them in good faith.

Right now, Republicans in Congress are focused on rolling back our fundamental rights and cutting earned benefits for veterans and seniors. We need leaders who will actually fight for our best interests.

Arizona deserves better than Ciscomani and his partisanship.
