Earthjustice Action serves a much-needed role in ensuring that our courts are front and center in environmental politics. Our environmental laws are only as strong as the judges who uphold them, and the stakes for this work have never been higher. Unfortunately, amid an ongoing ethics crisis at the U.S. Supreme Court, approximately two dozen of President Biden’s outstanding nominees for lifetime federal judgeships are still waiting to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate. These highly qualified nominees are professionally and demographically diverse jurists who will bring much-needed balance to an increasingly hostile judicial landscape. Our Senators must prioritize confirming all these judges and filling the nearly 100 vacancies on the federal bench.
