Watch live starting at 9:45 AM EST Dear John, Today, at 9:45 AM ET, the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs will hold a hearing on the SAFE Banking Act entitled, “Examining Cannabis Banking Challenges of Small Businesses and Workers” and Dr. Kevin Sabet, President of Smart Approaches to Marijuana, will be testifying in opposition to the bill. The hearing will include two panels and will examine potential consequences of the SAFE Banking Act, an industry-crafted piece of legislation that will enable billions of dollars to be invested into the marijuana industry. If passed, this bill will bring our nation one step closer to the full nationwide legalization and commercialization of marijuana. Kevin will provide expert testimony during the second panel. The hearing will be livestreamed and can be viewed here. We are also encouraging our allies to voice their opposition to the SAFE Banking Act on social media. For your convenience, we have drafted a few Tweets that you are free to use: Put public health before private profits and say no to the SAFE Banking Act. This bill will allow Big Tobacco to invest billions of dollars into the marijuana industry and promote addictive products that are poisoning our kids. #AddictionBankingAct Amid multiple national crises––ranging from the fentanyl crisis to the looming debt default and recent bank failures––our elected officials should not be considering the SAFE Banking Act, a bank bailout pushed by the banking and marijuana industries. #AddictionBankingAct Former leaders of the @DEA and @ONDCP have warned that the SAFE Banking Act will enable the cartels to launder their blood money through our federal banking system. Stand up for public health and safety by joining us in opposition to the #AddictionBankingAct As always, thank you for all you do to support us in our fight for sensible, evidence-based drug policies.
