This week, we are launching our full volunteer office open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Tuesday to Thursday. This would not have been possible without our dedicated volunteers: Cecelia Lyons, Bert Herzenberg, Cate Wenzing, Kathy Barnes, Kathy Pussello and Anne Burt. Thank you!

Thank you, also, to our Indian River County Democrat volunteers that tabled last weekend at the 14th Annual Treasure Coast Seafood Festival. Our next opportunity to volunteer is Saturday, May 20th at the Freedom Day Festival shared below.

Effort to Put Abortion on the Florida Ballot Launched Just Three weeks after Florida Republicans Pass a 6-Week Abortion Ban

Planned parenthood is setting the stage for a high-profile battle with Republican Governor Ron DeSantis as he prepares to run for president. A coalition of orgnazations intend to spend millions of dollars as they seek to gather roughly 890,000 valid signatures by February 1st. The effort promises to keep the contentious issue top of mind during the presidential election, while likely energizing the state's Democratic base. Democrats see the constitutional amendment as a winning strategy to boost election turnout. Full article HERE ([link removed]) .

LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Means to deadly ends

There have been nearly 200 mass shootings in the nation so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive ([link removed]) , resulting in the death of more than 100 innocent people.

The deadly consequences are due to mass shooting, not mass stabbing or mass spearing or mass rock throwing. Common sense dictates that without the deadly weaponry used in these instances, an unhinged individual would be unable to inflict such tragic and unspeakable damage.

Common sense is in short supply in Florida where the Legislature, with strong support from Governor DeSantis, passed a bill eliminating the need for permits and training as a requirement to carry a concealed gun in public.

Seriously?

Video of the Week
Have you seen it? Joe Biden isn’t ready to give up on Florida. This past week, his campaign began running a new election ad in Florida highlighting Biden’s economic record. The addition of FL to the media buy demonstrates the Biden campaign sees many paths to 270 electoral votes and is investing early in building on Biden’s strength in the sunbelt.
