Dear
Friend,
Tonight, I delivered my Budget in Reply speech, outlining the Coalition’s vision for Australian families.
You can read it here. ([link removed])
I also pointed out some facts the Treasurer failed to mention in his own Budget speech on Tuesday night.
1. 10 million Australians face a tax hike this year and around 175,000 are projected to lose their jobs.
2. This Government is spending an additional $185 billion dollars, but millions of middle-income Australians won’t receive a cent.
3. Amidst a housing and rental crisis, migration will increase by 1.5 million people over five years. (More than the population of Adelaide).
4. Your power bills are going up by more than $500 dollars.
5. The Government’s policies will cause inflation to stay higher for longer, putting pressure on interest rates.
What the Treasurer didn’t say, but what is now clear, is that Labor continues to break its promises to Australians who are hurting – including cheaper mortgages and a $275 cut to your power bill.
Labor has squandered the opportunities they inherited on coming to office.
This included the lowest unemployment rate in almost 50 years.
And they have benefited from soaring revenues from coal, gas and other resources.
Labor’s Budget reveals a deteriorating economy.
Australia’s core inflation is now higher than every major advanced economy.
Anthony Albanese has no plan to tackle the challenges our nation faces.
But the Coalition does.
Tonight, I announced some important policy initiatives. A Coalition government will:
* Offer an alternative to the Government by incentivising unemployed Australians to take up work by lifting the income free threshold for those on JobSeeker.
* Re-instate the Cashless Debit Card in communities that want and need it. This will mean welfare can be spent on food for kids, not alcohol and drugs.
* Restore the number of Medicare-subsidised psychological sessions from 10 to 20.
* Provide $4 million in funding for Ovarian Cancer Australia, and undertake a review of women’s health items available through Medicare and the PBS.
* Double the size of the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation.
* Impose more obligations on big digital companies to stop scams and fraud.
* Ban gambling advertising during sports broadcasts, for an hour each side of a game.
Australians deserve a better government.
And that is what the Coalition will deliver.
Unlike Labor, which has taken the backbone of this country for granted, we will govern for all Australians.
Yours sincerely,
Peter Dutton
Leader of the Opposition
